Queen Elizabeth II becomes the first British monarch to have ruled for 70 years, having ascended the throne on February 6, 1952. Celebrations will take place across the UK during the four-day bank holiday in June.

As Elizabeth II begins her Platinum Jubilee, we look back to the day she became queen in a treehouse in Kenya. 

Princess Elizabeth and her husband, Philip, was admiring the view from a bridge on the grounds of Sagana Lodge in Kenya, on Feb. 5, 1952. The following day, news arrived of the death of King George VI and Elizabeth's accession to the throne.

Since then the Queen has reigned for 70 years. She becomes the first monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. It was an honour to witness this milestone of Her Majesty to recognise this milestone, doing what she does best, getting on with the job as she works on papers from her iconic red box.
