On Tuesday, a Columbus Division of Police officer fatally shot 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant. Police accountability data shows the shooting wasn’t an anomaly. Bryant is the fifth Black child killed by @ColumbusPolice since 2016. .@ColumbusPolice and @NYPDnews are tied for the second-most police killings of kids since 2013. The @Chicago_Police is first killing 12 children in total, including last month’s fatal shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo.

All five of the young Columbus victims, who ranged in age from 13 to 17, were Black, according to @washingtonpost’s database of police shootings. @ColumbusPolice officers killed more than 40 people since 2013, a database from Mapping Police Violence shows. More than 70% of those victims were Black, despite Black people accounting for only 29% of the city’s population, according to US Census data.

On Wednesday, @ColumbusPolice identified Nicholas Reardon as the officer who fatally shot Bryant. They also released bodycam footage of the incident along with audio of the preceding 911 call that sent officers to the scene. Bryant’s killing sparked protests in Columbus on Tuesday night. @ColumbusPolice did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Each weekend at LEAST 25 people (blacks) are shot in Chicago....now do NY, Detroit, Atlanta...etcAt least 500 blacks are shot, 18% of them die....the rest are maimed and scarred with the memory. Could it be that blacks commit a disproportionately large amount of crimes comparied to other groups and therefore come under the perview of police more.

But in this case, the cop who shot the murderous 16 year old lunging to kill another black woman knew that black lives did matter and saved that unarmed woman from being stabbed to death with an 8+ inch knife. The 16 year old made a grave tragic decision to try and murder someone and the cop has an obligation to protect an unarmed man
