Germans take to the polls Sunday to vote for the country's future under new leadership. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is to step down after 16years in office, leaving the position of chancellor up for grabs along with all 598 seats in the Bundestag.

Germany’s general election is too close to call. Polls are now closed and the first projections put the Social Democrats and the conservative Christian Democrats at 25 percent each.

Report says that Social Democrats slightly ahead of Merkel's Christian Democrats,  All other projections put the Social Democrats slightly ahead at 26 percent, compared to the Conservatives' 24 percent.
