After the suspension of the chairman, the overly ambitious APC National Deputy Secretary, Victor Giadom laid claim to the vacant position and seemingly emerged the preferred figure after receiving the backings of the president, against Oshiomhole’s presumed announcements of the late Ex-Governor Ajimobi as the acting national chairman.

However, with Giadom’s ‘emergence’ as acting national chair, his next assignment was to convene the party’s NEC meeting and in that meeting the reality dawn on him that he (Giadom) was just a tool, a means to an end and not an end in itself.

Between the two orders, the president’s allies knew the best for them as they couldn’t get the Oshiomhole faction on board to convene the NEC meeting because of a subsisting court order and the party constitution made it clear that only the national chairman could convene a NEC meeting.

They settled on recognising Giadom, who was desperate to be the acting chairman. They capitalised on his desperation and assured him he’s their man. With Garba Shehu’s statement openly conveying President Buhari’s position, Giadom felt confident he’s in charge and went ahead to convene the NEC meeting.
