The grassroots political stems are springing up to partake in the forth coming local government elections. local government chairmen, councilors and probably supervisors and service chiefs in the inner grassroots resolves.

Interested candidates have shown huge interest and political aspirants posters are now flying up and down in both our immediate and social media spaces for the election slated August 2020.

In ife alone, all four local governments have more than five aspirants each for every contestable offices in all the local government secretariat.

Although holding local government elections in Osun is a new and welcome development, after going eight straight years without any grassroots elections during the Aregbesola two term as the Governor,

This is a very democratic practices from the Gov. Oyetola leadership and it’s also a means of fulfilling one of his electoral manifestoes as election will be held by Osun state Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), he had promise he will look into it if he was elected during the gubernatorial campaign and keeping up to it is a good gesture by the governor.

Ogbeni Rauf was largely criticise during his tenure for his nomination policy, runing the local government affairs from his office in Abere, instead of allowing democracy to take its toll at the grass root level, he prefers appointments and nominations.

“He didn’t even make appointments of any lower ranking officers in the local government cadet., no supervisor, no councilor and nothing like external officers feeding excessively on the government coffers”. Lamented one of the party loyalist who pleaded anonymous.

Although, Ogbeni Rauf should be eulogies for his bravery in cutting expenses on government running fares, but its only fair when its applicable to all other arms of government all through to the federal level. we have to start from somewhere though but, it’s what it’s.

The present governor of the State of Osun, Gboyega Oyetola has promised to run his own government differently and he will subsequently give room democracy and the rule of law to serve even from the grassroots level.
