The Harmattan season comes with its health challenges. The dustiness
of the season aggravates such diseases like conjunctivitis
(inflammation of the conjunctiva), cough, asthma, catarrh,
irritations of the skin and respiratory tract. It is therefore
important to know how best to keep oneself from succumbing to the
health hazards of this season.

Tips on how to be protected;

As humidity is always very low during the Harmattan season, you
experience much dehydration. It is pertinent you take in much water.
Do not drink only when you feel thirsty. Drink water at all times.

Make sure you put on a sweater, a pair of socks, and head warmer when
necessary. You must do this to stay warm and properly protect your
body from dust.

Foods and fruits should be properly covered and preserved to avoid
contamination. Wash thoroughly any fruit before consuming.

Keep your abode very neat. Take time out to sweep and mop your floors
thoroughly. Dust all furnitures to reduce the accumulation of dust.

Apply moisturizers regularly on your skin. Do it every morning and
night. Use mild soaps for bathing.

Apply regularly lip balm on your lips to prevent them from cracking.

Wash your hair regularly with shampoo. Your hair might irritate you
when not properly cared for. And when drying your hair, do not dry it
completely so as to retain some moisture as well as to prevent it from
breaking when combing.

As there is little cloud cover, protect yourself from the scorching
sun. Get an umbrella if you have to walk a long distance.

To prevent your eyes from taking in too much sunlight, it is advised

through the season unscathed by its hazards.
