The Nigerian government has taken delivery of the first set donations of 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines out of a total of 1.4 million doses designated for Nigeria by the network provider to alleviate the spread of the deadly virus. The African Union tasked with the responsibility of the donations made it known to her public on Tuesday.

As realeased by MTN on Tuesday, it was labeled the  ‘First set of MTN donation of 1.4 million doses of vaccines received by Nigeria’, noted that the MTN Group had contributed $25m for the vaccines, a combination of doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX facility and from the AU COVID-19 vaccination programme. Nigeria is one of the country's whose vaccination process isn't up to speed like all other countries going through the process.

The distribution of the vaccines would be tasked to health workers around the country. It's expected to be distributed amongst health workers in Nigeria by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency. This body will see to the proper circulation without bias or preferences to a particular sect or group of people.

On behalf of the health care workers, the Director-General of the NPHDA, Faisal Shuaib, commended the efforts of the Nigerian government and the AU, as well as MTN for its generosity and willingly collaborating with the Nigerian government in order to witness the end of the pandemic in Nigeria, Africa and all around the world.

Hopefully, the remaining 1.1 million doses of vaccine promised to be donated by the telecom giant will follow suit to aid the vaccination process in record time.
