World no.1 men’s tennis player Novak Djokovic’s visa was cancelled after he was unable to “provide appropriate evidence” to meet Australian entry requirements.

The Australian Border Force confirmed in a statement early Thursday, The Guardian reports. Djokovic was held at the Melbourne airport for several hours.

He previously announced that he had received an exemption to the country’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement. He now awaits deportation, but his lawyers plan to appeal the decision, according to several reports.
