OSUN STATE GOVERNOR INAUGURATES MINERAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE

The Osun state giver or on Wednesday inaugurated the Osun Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO), which is in line with the Nigeria Minerals and Mining Act 2007 that empowers the Committee to oversee the regulation of the entire mining operations in the State.

The Act also empowers the Committee to discuss and advise the Minister of Solid Minerals on matters affecting encroachment, trespass, security, social unrest, pollution and environmental degradation of any land on which any mineral is being extracted as it relates to all licence holders within the State. 

With the inauguration of Osun MIREMCO, we have taken another step towards sanitising the State’s resource climate and resolving the extant challenges being faced at mining sites and affected communities across the State. This will complement our efforts towards lifting our State out of economic misery.

As a government, we are committed to erecting a solid structure for driving our resource-blessed State, delivering resource boom and avoiding resource curse.

As the eyes and ears of government, I charged members of the committee

to carry out their responsibilities, which is a call to duty, with the highest sense of purpose, responsibility and efficiency. Without doubt, the tasks before them are onerous and sensitive as they're related to the security and welfare of Osun people.
