Pope Francis received a personalized Lamborghini Huracan model on Wednesday as a gift from the Italian luxury car manufacturer. He decided to auction off  the car and send the earnings to four charitable projects, including the reconstruction of the Nineveh Plains.

The money raised will be “delivered directly to the Holy Father,” who has decided to allocate the proceeds to the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), to help fund the Nineveh Plains Reconstruction Project, to the Pope John XXIII Community Association, and to two Italian charitable associations that focus their efforts in Africa.

It’s evident that the return of Christians to the Nineveh Plains in Iraq through the rebuilding of their homes, the public structures and their site of prayers and the well being of Africa masses is more paramount to the pope than having a roller coaster in some fancy Ferrari, tell these to Nigerian private jets flying pastors.

Although, These is not the first time, Pope Francis has done similar auctions for high-end gifts in the past, with each item going for well beyond its market sales price.

In 2013, he was given a Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide, which was sold to a private buyer for roughly $327,000, far exceeding the $16-22,000 pre-sale estimate. The proceeds for two years has led projects dedicated primarily to care for women and children.

After his September 2015 visit to the United States, during which FIAT Chrysler made a pair of FIAT 500Ls available for the Pope to use during his time in Philadelphia, both of the cars were auctioned off to support local charity.

Similarly, in April 2016 a white skullcap – known as a “zucchetto” and worn by prelates in the Catholic Church – was sold for around $18,000, after the owner had bought it and exchanged it with the Pope during a general audience. At least part of the funds went to support a children’s charity.

One of the reason for the auction of the Lamborghini is to support charity organization that focus their efforts in Africa, this was what brought the thought behind this write up, while Africa religious believes has been fairly twisted by pastors and men of God who enrich themselves by collecting from the masses to acquire worldly wealth, the vicar of Christ on earth is largely helping to better the lives of the same masses that made the pastors rich. This is to say, while he’s busy getting rids of his personal worldly wealths to better the masses lot, Nigerian pastors are busy acquiring them at their expense. It’s a twisted world really and we need to think about it.

This generation is the first to question the payment of tithes, don’t get me wrong, am liberal on the issue, never had any preference for or against, am just neutral. But when am use to the fact that pastors in my country are billionaires that fly private jets at the expense of a bread or pure water selling member, or when schools built by the members money cannot be attended by their children then that’s a sorry case, we once and still have missionary schools in the country that are almost tuition free. I believe a church could be big enough to own private jets no question about that, but when it’s own by an individual pastor, then questions needs to be asked.
