Visitors to the most popular national parks this summer are waiting more for access. “Anywhere you go, there’s going to be a line,” said one tourist on a visit to Utah.
Some national parks are drawing record crowds as pandemic-weary Americans head to the great outdoors. Arches National Park reaches capacity and temporarily closes its gates most days before 9 am (Today it was full before 7:30 am local time!).
The visitation data is clear, this is being driven by over promotion, industrial tourism and influencer culture. For decades visitation was stagnant only to grow astronomically just before 2015.
The problem is exacerbated by the booming real-estate market, as many rangers can’t find a home in Moab ... Moab saw an increase in remote workers during the pandemic, and is a popular market for people buying second homes
