The President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, has expressed readiness for his country to be part of Nigeria. They wanted to be the 37th State despite huge challenges Nigeria is facing recently. Anyways, one man's Nigeria, is another man's abroad. Although, the disclosure doesn't help  

The Yoruba nation who thought it will be a blessing to extend with a yoruba speaking country that has a lot in common with it race. It wouldn't be so cheap to be acquired though. Benin Republic stretches from North to South. And Nigerian issues are more than that simple. Its difficult to understand why Benin Republic want to move to Nigeria as it seems they’re very okay on their own.

But on the real note, the minister was saying figuretaively that the country should be the 37th state of Nigeria and not necessarily mean they want to join Nigeria to become a country, the following are his personal words on the matter; Along with my colleagues, Rauf Aregbesola and Niyi Adebayo met with our Benin Republic counterparts led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Aurelien, Mr. Romuald Wadagni, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mrs. Shadiya Assouman, Minister of Industry and Trade..

Also Mr. Sacca Lafia, Minister of Interior of the Republic of Benin. This Interministerial meeting is to reach a bilateral agreement between our two countries to curb smuggling activities and workout a sustainable modality between Nigeria and Benin Republic. A bilateral relationship to curb smuggling and inflow of arms and amuniton from the Benin land boarders.
