Supreme Court Spokesman Clarifies: Fire Incident Unrelated to Presidential Tribunal

In a statement to the press, Akande Festus, the Director of Press and Information for the Supreme Court, emphasized that the recent fire incident at the Supreme Court was entirely unrelated to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

Festus explained that the fire, which occurred on Monday, was limited to just one chamber of the Supreme Court and was promptly extinguished using fire extinguishers. The damage primarily affected books, stationery, and computer equipment. However, he reassured that the lost books were replaceable, thanks to the existence of an e-library and both soft and hard copies of the materials that can be procured and supplied to the chamber.

He emphasized that the incident had no connection whatsoever to the Presidential Election Petition, dispelling any rumors to the contrary. Festus also clarified that chambers within the court are not the venues for discussions related to presidential election matters, contrary to some public misconceptions.
