THE APPALLING CASE OF CORRUPTION EMBEDDED IN THE NIGERIAN SYSTEM
The Nigerian state is been crippled with unprecedented corrupt practices which has detrimental to it’s survival
The state of corruption in the country Nigeria is alarming, it's also capable of driving out tears out of a pure soul who hate and frown at corruption. In the recent @budgetit revelations, there are some appalling expenses enshrined in the 2021 budget that sounds and look ridiculous. The rate at which these things are, it's easy for anyone to throw in the towel and give up on the case and state of Nigeria and it corrupt historical antecedents.
The present government have always been drumming the mantra of fighting corruption. But the true meaning of fighting corruption in it own terms is devising 'ingenious' ways of rechristening it. No responsible government fights corruption the way he claimed to be fighting it because it will always fight back. A well meaning government who is serious about fighting corruption will simply build a system of accountability that blocks all blockable loopholes and punishes all infractions.
it seems fighting corruption is the real corruption in the Buhari administration. Former president Goodluck Jonathan once said fighting corruption in his own terms is the blockage of all loopholes, but the present Government attacked him and call him weak. Although Ingenious thieves will still find a way around blocked loopholes. To punish these, details of government expenditure needs to be totally opened so that anybody can see on enquiry. This way, it will be easy to probe erring persons.
For example, in the 2021 budget. Federal College of Forestry in Ibadan, Oyo state got a contract to construct street lights in Edo state. National Agriculture seed council to install street light in 6 geo-political zones. Whatever group filed that in the budget was really pushing their luck to claim free money. What is the office of the Auditor General doing in all this, Shouldn't the budget be reviewed by that office before being passed to the Senate.
The intellectuals in Nigeria needs to gather and do something about Nigeria. The country have been left in the hands of few corrupt politicians for long. If there's a look, let us look effevtively and efficiently. The first place the country had to look for rejuvenation is by showing good image. For once, there's need for the country to start doing just by itself and not ordinary chaos. This country is redeemable. There are still good people in it to start working towards it good.
