Whistle Blowing rakes in $160m, N8B for Nigeria

The fight against corruption in Nigeria has become red-hot under President Muhammadu Buhari since his inauguration. He has waged and all-out war against Corruption in Nigeria through the EFCC and the ICPC such that as of today, there are numerous cases under investigation while some of them have been exposed.

The new whistle blowing policy proves to be a major success in the actualisation of Buhari’s dreams who promised to “expose the elites that have conspired to bring down the nation” Whistle blowing is now trending in the fight against corruption. The whistleblowing policy is barely 2months old yet it has proved to be a great success. Under this new policy, the whistle-blower will be given 5% of the loot recovered.

According to the Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed says that the federal government has been able to rake in $151million and N8billion in looted funds. Anyone with actionable information about looted funds can give the information and keep a fraction of the money discovered. Here are 5 major discoveries through the whistle-blowing policy.

1. Andrew Yakubu: $9.2 million was recovered from the Former Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation in his Kaduna Residence. Another €545,730 and £21,090 were recovered excluding the initial discovery. Mr Yakubu claimed the money was a gift and challenged the temporary forfeiture of the money by the EFCC. The Whisle blower also revealed that they only discovered ¼ of the loot meaning Mr Yakubu has 4 safe-houses filled with raw cash.

2. $136,676,600.51(42billion Naira) was recovered from an account in a commercial bank where he said money was kept under an apparently fake account name followed by N7bn and $15million from another person and N1bn form another person still.

3. The recovery of N13billion in a Lagos apartment by the EFCC allegedly owned by the suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in a flat in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

4. An Artisan reported the brand new 47 sport Utility Vehicles and Buses parked at the Abuja home of a retired Federal Permanent Secretary where he had gone to do some repairs, even some car dealers don’t have such a number of vehicles in their malls. It was later discovered that the vehicles were bought for N1.5billion which was part of the N27billion insurance premium for deceased PHCN workers which officials have denied the relatives access.

5. Another $38million dollars(23billion Naira) discovered at Ikoyi allegedly owned by Mrs Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue a former Managing Director, Operations at the NNPC (Why always NNPC???) Mrs Esther has subsequently denied the ownership of the money, although, There has been a rift between some politicians accusing each other of the ownership

So far so good, all these figures has brought us to a total sum of 160million (usd) been recovered by the policy of whistl blowing, although the populace was still unable to phantom what the government wants to do with the money, we can be assured that more looted funds will still be recovered by this policies.
