The Electoral Institute's Training Department proactively organized an extensive training program for Electoral Officers (EO), Assistant Electoral Officers (Operations), and Heads of Legal Departments in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Imo State Governorship Election on November 11th, 2023. Commencing on Monday, September 25th, 2023, this training aimed to equip participants with essential skills to manage crucial electoral processes effectively.

The primary goal was to instill a strategic managerial approach, deepen their understanding of the legal framework, keep them updated on technological advancements, and ensure mastery of the vital election processes and procedures. The training, primarily attended by EOs, AEOs (Operations), and Heads of Legal Departments, started promptly at 10 am with registration and opening remarks.

Prof. Sylvia Uchenna Agu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner representing the Chairman of the Board of Electoral Institute, welcomed the participants warmly. She emphasized the training's significance in enhancing the professionalism of Election Officers and AEOs (Operations) during their electoral duties. Prof. Agu stressed the impact on managerial skills, competencies, and a deep dive into critical aspects of election guidelines and regulations for 2022.

Dr. Sa'ad Umar Idris, the Director General of the Electoral Institute, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of trainers being well-versed in the Commission's innovations. He underlined the pivotal roles played by Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers in the electoral process and the necessity of this capacity-building workshop.

The training methodology thoughtfully covered Management, the Legal Framework for Elections, ICT-driven innovations, and key activities within the Electoral Cycle. Dr. Idris encouraged participants to seize this valuable opportunity.

Dr. Binta Mohammed Kasim, the Director of Training, emphasized that this training was a unique learning curve for election managers at the local government level.

The five-day Technical Training included modules on Strategic Management for Electoral Officers, Voter Education and Management, Recruitment, Training, and Deployment of Registration Election Personnel, among other critical topics. The workshop promises to empower electoral officials with the knowledge and skills needed to ensure a seamless and successful 2023 Governorship Election in Imo State
