AGF MALAMI TOOK FMR. VICE PRESIDENT ATIKU ABUBAKAR TO THE DRY CLEANER AHEAD OF 2023 GENERAL ELECTION

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has filed a motion through his counsel Oladipo Okpeseyi at Federal High court in Abuja that former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, is not eligible to run for presidential elections in Nigeria. He told the court that considering the circumstances surrounding his birth, the former vice-president isn't a Nigerian and cannot run for the biggest office in the land.

According to him, the defendant was born on the 25th of November 1946 which makes him a Nigerian by virtue of the 1961 plebiscite, but not by birth. However, the former Vice President has reciprocatingly filed a notice of objection in collaboration with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insisting that he is “a patriotic citizen of Nigeria. He further asked the court to dismiss the suit for lacking merit, adding that it was filed in bad faith to  tarnish his image and integrity and further jeopardize his chances of running in the 2023 general election.

But it's difficult to understand the reason why the AGF is just coming out with his claim on the former Vice President. This is an individual who has held civil office for donkey of years, he had contested for the governor of his state and has been made Vice present for two term under president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku Abubakar has also contested for the presidency on numerous occasions at the level of party primaries and general elections, why does it take the AGF so long to come out with his claim, is he on a mission for some high profiled politicians who might be willing to ruin the chances of the former Vice President for 2023 in order to create chances for themselves.

Besides, the country's constitutions states more than one way in which a man can be a citizen of the country or eligible to contest for any political offices, all around the world, a man can be a citizen of a nation by birth, services, adoption or longevity of stay in the same country. Meanwhile, the said individual had worked and retired in civil service office in the country.

Its important to understand where the AGF is coming from so we can understand what exactly is his motive for this revelation, AGF Malami has always been perceived as a PDP affiliate, it will be interesting when his true motive is been exposed, but until then, it's advisable not to support or oppose his claims.
